Tromsø – Iceland 2019

G9. Tromsø – Iceland
August 11-23  2019

This combined sailing-hiking trip begins in the pleasant Norwegian town of Tromsø. There will be one day of sailing between the fjords of Norway before crossing the Greenland sea towards Iceland.
This is a wonderful and relaxing sailing trip of 6-7 days framed by spectacular sunsets and sunrises. There is a great opportunity to spot whales along the way: humpbacks, sperm whales, Greenland whales and killer whales!
We will sail past Jan Mayen, a small (Norwegian) island in the middle of the Arctic Ocean. The island is volcanic and the volcano is still active.  In good weather we may visit the weather station there!

The journey then continues to North Iceland. There we will take the time to explore the coast: there are numerous and beautiful anchorages and nice harbors, such as Húsavik, Dalvik, Siglufjördur. And there is the Icelandic island Grimsey 25 miles off the coast of Iceland, which straddles the Arctic Circle!
We will arrive at this trip’s destination Akureyri, Iceland on August 22nd (in the evening) or on August 23rd (in the morning). This northern town has an ice-free port and the airport for your flight home.
